📺 Device Setup Guide

DashCal works on any device with a web browser. Here's how to set it up on popular screens.

📱 iPad / Tablet (Wall Mount)

Perfect for a kitchen or hallway family command centre.

  1. Open Safari on your iPad.
  2. Go to your DashCal URL (find it in Manage → Display).
  3. Tap Share ↗Add to Home Screen. This opens DashCal like a native app.
  4. Open the app from your home screen — it runs full-screen, no browser bars.
  5. Go to Settings → Display & Brightness → Auto-Lock → Never so the screen stays on.
💡 Tip: Enable Guided Access (Settings → Accessibility → Guided Access) to lock the iPad to DashCal so kids can't accidentally switch apps.

🖼️ Facebook Portal / Echo Show

Turn your smart display into a beautiful family dashboard.

  1. Say "Hey Portal, open the browser" (or tap the browser icon).
  2. Navigate to your DashCal URL.
  3. Bookmark it for quick access — the display auto-refreshes with live data.
  4. For Echo Show: open the Silk Browser from the app menu.
💡 Tip: DashCal is designed for touch screens — tap the icon strip at the top to switch between calendar, meals, grocery list, and more.

🚗 Tesla Browser

See your family's schedule while parked or charging.

  1. Tap the browser icon in your Tesla (bottom bar).
  2. Navigate to your DashCal URL.
  3. Bookmark it — Tesla remembers your bookmarks across drives.
💡 Tip: DashCal works on all Tesla models (Model 3, Y, S, X). The large screen makes it perfect for viewing family events at a glance.

📺 Smart TV / Fire TV Stick

Your living room TV becomes a family info board.

  1. Open the built-in web browser on your TV (Samsung: "Internet", LG: "Web Browser").
  2. On Fire TV Stick: install Silk Browser or Firefox from the app store.
  3. Navigate to your DashCal URL and bookmark it.
  4. For always-on use, disable the TV's screen saver / sleep timer.
💡 Tip: Use a wireless keyboard or the TV's phone remote app for easier URL typing.

🍓 Raspberry Pi Kiosk

The cheapest always-on dashboard — a Pi plugged into any monitor or TV.

  1. Install Raspberry Pi OS (Lite or Full).
  2. Install Chromium: sudo apt install -y chromium-browser
  3. Set up auto-start in kiosk mode:
    chromium-browser --kiosk --noerrdialogs --disable-infobars YOUR_DASHCAL_URL
  4. The Pi boots straight into your dashboard — no keyboard needed after setup.
💡 Tip: A Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W (~$15) + a used monitor is the most affordable always-on dashboard setup.

💻 Desktop / Laptop Browser

Quick access from any computer.

  1. Open Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge.
  2. Navigate to your DashCal URL.
  3. Press F11 (or Ctrl+Cmd+F on Mac) for fullscreen.
  4. Bookmark it for instant access.
💡 Tip: In Chrome, click ⋮ → Install DashCal to add it as a desktop app (PWA) that opens in its own window.

📲 iPhone / Android Phone

Check your family dashboard on the go.

  1. iPhone: Open Safari → go to your DashCal URL → tap Share ↗Add to Home Screen.
  2. Android: Open Chrome → go to your DashCal URL → tap Add to Home screen.
  3. It opens like a native app — full screen, no browser bars.
💡 Tip: Everyone in your family can bookmark the same URL on their own phone. No login needed to view the dashboard.
